Shopper Entry Experience
These are the standard shopper entry methods for a JWO store:
- Credit Card — tap, dip (insert), swipe, or mobile wallet
- Badge Scan — the shopper scans their employee badge
- Mobile App QR Code — the shopper scans a QR code generated by a mobile app
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is also available for customers who manage shopper authentication themselves.
In all cases there is a payment mechanism associated with the shopper that allows you to authenticate the shopper, ensure there is a means to collect payment, which provides you with the information to authorize a shopper to enter the store.
Amazon offers several services to aid in presenting a solution which best meets your desired shopper experience and store risk profile. The options for authentication and risk management are identified below.
Authentication
The authentication process allows you to ensure the mechanism the shopper is valid before allowing them to enter the store.
These are the available authentication mechanisms:
Credit Card Entry The shopper taps, dips (inserts), or swipes their payment card, or uses a mobile wallet, at the store entrance. Amazon handles the authentication with the appropriate payment processor and tracks the outstanding balance against the payment instrument. No additional integration is required from the customer.
Mobile Application The shopper uses their mobile device to scan a QR code generated by a mobile app at the store entrance. The customer is responsible for providing the mobile app that generates the QR code.
Badge Scan The shopper scans their employee badge at the store entrance. For a list of supported credential types, see Supported Credential Types.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) The customer manages the full shopper authentication process and determines whether the shopper is authorized to enter the store. The customer then passes the entry decision to Amazon, which opens the gate. Amazon only acts on the output of the customer's authentication process.
Note: Identifier types that appear in the shopper entry APIs (for example loyalty IDs, phone numbers, or shopper types such as cash shopper and associate) are not separate entry methods. They are ways to identify or classify a shopper within the standard entry methods listed above.
